THE OLD DRIVE-IN THEATRES
These are the Drive-in's I frequented
as a kid and into my early 20's. Anyone that grew up in the 50's & 60's
remembers the smells related to an evening at the Drive-In. Popcorn, Hotdogs
and Pizza. All but one are gone now with a few traces visible from the air.
My youngest memories are of the Lake Park Drive-In just a couple of miles
from where I grew up. At age 5 I saw Monster That Challenged the World there
with my mom and sister and spent most of the time behind the seat. My second
wife and I went to the Carol Drive-In around 1972 and it was pretty beat
up then. Now it resembles something that belongs in a ghost town setting.
The Lakeside Drive-In had a picture frame style screen built up against a
limstone bluff. I remember my mom and I going there to see Oceans 11 in the
early 60's while my dad was away on business. We forgot to remove the speaker
and busted the window out of the old 55 Chevy.
