I REPLACED
THE O-RINGS ON THE CARBUTETOR CONNECTOR TUBES BECAUSE OF A PERSISTANT FUEL
LEAK. ONCE DISASSEMBLED, IT WAS APPARENT THAT SOMEONE HAD USED EPOXY TO SEAL
A LEAK WHERE THE MAIN FUEL INLET PIPE TEES IN BETWEEN 1 AND 2 CARBS. CONSIDERING
THE DIFFICULTY IN REMOVING THE CARBS I CAN UNDERSTAND SOMEONE TAKING THIS
SHORTCUT BUT I WOULD NEVER TAKE CHANCES WHERE SAFETY IS CONCERNED AND MADE
THE PROPER REPAIR. INSTRUCTIONS FOR TILTING THE ENGINE AND THE CARBURETOR
REPAIR ARE PRETTY STRAIGHT FORWARD. THE ONLY TRICKY PART IS GETTING THE
RETURN SPRINGS RE-MOUNTED ONTO THE CHOKE SHAFT PROPERLY. THE HONDA MANUAL
LEFT OUT REMOVING THE OIL PRESSURE SENDING WIRE FROM THE SENDING UNIT WHICH
CAME CLOSE TO CAUSING A BREAK IN THE WIRE AFTER TILTING. I USED O-RINGS
FROM MY LOCAL O'REILLY AUTO PARTS STORE TO MAKE THE REPAIR. THE RINGS DON'T
HAVE AS HEAVY A PROFILE AS THE HONDA RINGS BUT THEY STILL WORKED. IF I HAD
A METAL LATHE I WOULD UPGRADE ALL THE TUBES TO HOLD 2 RINGS PER JOINT GIVING
A BETTER CONNECTION.
